Currently located at 684 Congress Street, the Drop-In Center is the genesis of PSL Services, and while the location has changed over the years, it’s philosophy and purpose has not. Since most members live alone or with limited support, their vulnerability and isolation impact directly on their ability to provide for basic needs.
|
To this end the Drop-In Center serves two roles:
|
1. It serves as a safety net for people who may otherwise be overlooked by providing:
* A place to check in with someone who cares
* Respite from the streets
* Assistance with procuring food and necessities in emergency situations
* Information and referral services * An ear to listen, emotional support and encouragement * Assistance with problem-solving
* A phone and TTY for local calls
* Laundry facilities, as well as staff assistance to use them, if needed |
|
2. It provides a safe, low-key environment that fosters socialization and peer support
* Interactive games and entertainment - pool table - foosball - TV - stereo - computer - playing cards - Interactive games to promote increased peer socialization
* Dinner offered every Tuesday evening to further enhance socialization. * Other regularly scheduled activities available.
* Drop-in activities include: - Monday afternoon Bingo games - Tuesday afternoon Arts & Crafts program - Thursday afternoon American Sign Language classes Members are welcome for activities A Center member serves on the Peregrine Corp (PSL Services) Board of Directors as our Consumer Liaison to share information and discuss issues facing the PSL consumer community.
Membership is free to anyone participating in any the PSL Services programs and others who are interested with a referral from the Dept. of Health & Human Services, Div. of Intellectual and Physical disabilities.
